After reaching out to FTMO about continuing as a swing trader under their updated rules, I was essentially told my choices were to close the account and purchase new challenges, or just live with the tighter restrictions. That doesn’t seem reasonable for a trader who has already grown a meaningful allocation under the old terms. I actively trade with three prop firms and have spent considerable time reviewing the conditions offered by the main players. Before these recent adjustments, FTMO was the clear leader in my view. The core issue is the new policy for swing accounts over $200k, which now prevents holding positions across weekends or news events. This single change risks driving swing traders elsewhere and comes across as a step in the wrong direction. Adding to the frustration is the complete lack of prior warning. It would have been fair to offer the ability to divide larger accounts into smaller ones, letting traders keep working with their current capital under the previous rules. That strikes me as a sensible solution. Given how highly I’ve always regarded FTMO’s standing in the industry, the combination of these rule changes and the response I’ve received has been especially disappointing.

Until recently, I would have said that FTMO were by far the best prop firm in the industry. I currently trade with three different firms and have carried out extensive research into the rules and conditions offered by the major prop firms. The recent changes FTMO have made to swing accounts above $200k, however, seem highly counterproductive and are likely to deter swing traders from continuing to use the platform. In particular, swing accounts above $200k can no longer be held over weekends or through news events. You would think FTMO would offer the option to split larger allocations into smaller accounts to allow traders to continue using their existing allocation under the new rules. This seems particularly reasonable given that these rules were changed without any notice whatsoever to existing traders. I have traded with FTMO since 2021, and after several years of being a customer, I am extremely disappointed by the response I have received when asking how I can continue trading with FTMO as a swing trader. The options presented to me are essentially to cancel my maximum allocation and pay for additional challenges, or simply accept the new restrictions. Neither option seems particularly reasonable for an existing customer who has built up a significant allocation with FTMO under a completely different set of rules. This is especially disappointing given the level of credibility and respect FTMO has built within the industry. I have always considered FTMO to be one of the most reputable prop firms available, which makes these changes and the way they have been handled particularly frustrating.
